Hey Reader, I hope you are THRIVING this week in spite of the crazy weather and all the sickness going around. Any big Superbowl Fans out there?🏈 If your team is in it, write back and tell me who you are rooting for. My parents were both born and raised in Kansas. So all my extended family is Chiefs fans. That's as close to a preference as I'm going to get! Mostly I just like the commercials and half time.... When a serve opportunity LITERALLY lands on your front door...That's what happened to me. A couple of weeks ago, the Boy Scouts put a door hanger on my front door saying they were having a food drive and if I would leave some non-perishables on the porch on a certain day, they would pick them up. Could helping others get any easier than that? The only hard thing was REMEMBERING to pick up a few items and put them out. And these days, the REMEMBERING part is no small thing. But I did it. Feeding the hungry AND supporting kids as they learn to help others. Double Win! Double Blessing! Here are some other ways our community is serving these days: 🎓Michelle lives in a college town and she and her husband invite students to their house for a home cooked meal. I still remember a family who did this for me when I was in college. 🍴Mary provides meals for people who are sick or recovering from surgery. 👗Melanie, who owns a boutique, donates surplus inventory to women recovering from addiction who are trying to get back on their feet. 🧶Connie crochets caps for people going through chemo. It's inspiring to see all the varied and creative ways you serve. Way to go! Thriving by having FUN! Tony and I attended the Texas Master Chorale Gala last weekend. This year's theme was The Great Gatsby. It was a lovely event, with 1920's era decor and entertainment. And is usually the case, everyone dresses for the theme. Which always kind of stresses me out because I worry about what in the world am I going to wear. And it goes without saying that I'm also in charge of what Tony will wear.😂 But...AMAZON. What did we do without Amazon? They made it so easy! I went to Amazon, and typed in "Great Gatsby themed attire" . What you see us wearing is exactly what came up. It was fun evening supporting great friends and an organization that brings beautiful music to our community. What I LEARNED this week...Tony is retiring in June, so I've been getting all my routine medical checkups before then. Yesterday, I went to the dermatologist for an all over skin check. I have never done this before. Never had a reason to. But I thought it might be a good idea just to check. As the PA was checking me over, I mentioned this rough spot I had on my nose that had been there for a couple of months. I thought it might be because I had used too much retinol there which tends to be drying. Certainly a simple cream would clear it right up. WRONG! Turns out that dry spot was pre-cancerous and had to be burned off. Now this is not uncommon for people in our age group. But I was surprised. Moral of the story - get those routine checks whether you think you need them or not. Last round of sale shopping for a while - LOFTDotted Terry Sweatshirt in Navy - This is a lightweight sweatshirt. Comes in regular and petite. 40% off. Starry Velour V-neck top - Gorgeous royal blue velour with gold stars. I love this so much! Regular and Petite. And as I write this it's on sale for $20!!!! Write back and tell me your Super Bowl pick! That's it for this week! Until next time, Cathy Thriving through SERVICE, LEARNING and HAVING FUN! |

Hey Reader, Serving and Having Fun with some Coffee Talk For the past few months, I've been prayer walking my street. I learned about this way of serving my neighbors from this book. Never underestimate what is in your own backyard! My friend, Brenda and I took advantage of a beautiful day last week to have some fun close to home. Hey Reader, It's Spring Break Week 2 here (5 grandkids, different school districts), so I'm still doing things with the kids. Playstreet Museum Last week I took our 5 and 2 year old grandsons to Playstreet Museum. The museum is an open play space based on a theme. There are all kinds of things to play with and interactive play stations that are perfect for...
