Hey Reader, If you've been around for a while, you know I'm all about THRIVING in the empty nest/retirement years by SERVING, LEARNING and HAVING FUN! Here's how I did ALL 3 in 2 hours on a Saturday A couple of weeks ago, my church hosted Serve Saturday. The project I worked on was building beds for kids who don't have one with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. There is NOTHING in my skill set that would make me a good candidate for building beds. NOTHING. Or so I thought. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a well oiled machine with a variety of jobs for every skill and experience level. You get to choose one of about 14 different jobs you want to do like cutting, sanding, branding, and staining. Each job station has an experienced volunteer to guide and teach you. In fact, a central part of the mission of SHP is making the volunteer experience a good one for everyone who serves. I worked in Quality Control and learned to work a sander. I took assembled bed pieces, felt for splinters and sanded them down. I learned that right now, SHP has 154,000 kids waiting for a bed. I had no idea. Bonus: There were 70 people from church working on this project, so I met some people that I didn't know! FUN! We put together 45 beds in about 2 hours. The following weekend, a volunteer team went to kid's homes, assembled the beds, provided a mattress and let them choose their own new bedding. Sleep in Heavenly Peace has 338 chapters in the U.S. Find one near your and volunteer! It's a great experience. Last week was FULL of Fun!👰♀️April 14 - Tony and I had our 41st anniversary. No big celebration because he was out of town. But it is still something to celebrate. 🎂April 16 - Our granddaughter, Maddie, turned 11. 🛌April 18 was her birthday slumber party at our house. The theme was "Wicked" and the girls had a blast. 🐣We spent Easter Sunday with extended family at their home on Lake Conroe north of Houston. 🥱Easter Monday - I needed a REST from all that THRIVING!😂 What I bought this weekMy Chico's order came in and here is what I am keeping. Both are on sale: Pima 3/4 length tee - V-neck with beautiful design around the neckline and on the sleeves. Shirt tail hem. Would look great with white pants. Floral Linen Tee - Gorgeous pattern and so comfortable to wear. If you celebrate Easter or Passover, how did you celebrate? Write back and tell me! Until next time, Cathy Thriving through SERVICE, LEARNING and HAVING FUN! |

Hey Reader, When I was a little girl in the early 60's my parents both worked shift work. Mom worked days and Dad worked nights, which meant that Dad took care of my sister and me during the day. I have a vivid memory of running errands with my dad on weekday mornings. 💵We went to the Police Department to pick up his pay check. 💈To the barbershop for him to...

The humidity and mosquitos have arrived in Houston, so I guess we are! A NEW FUN Experience My friend, Meredyth, and I went to Artechouse Houston for the Blooming Wonders exhibit. This was the coolest thing. It was digitally created art depicting flowers, plants, butterflies and anything you that you would see in...

I spent most of May watching all the end of year grandkid programs and teaching my 16 year old grandson how to drive. That last one was a lot more time consuming than I anticipated and at times I felt like I had bitten off more than I could chew! One way I survived it was to make a Starbucks run every time we went out...
