Hey Reader, I am sitting here thinking "What have I done to serve, learn and have fun this week?". I feel like all I've done lately is go to routine doctor's appointments and supervise house projects. I often look at a National Days Calendar to see what is coming up that I could plan something around and I noticed that April 1 is National Sourdough Bread Day. Who doesn't like BREAD? 🍞 Since I never met a loaf of bread I didn't like, I thought "I will LEARN to make sourdough!". So I began searching Pinterest for a Sourdough Starter recipe. After a half hour of that, I LEARNED that I have no interest in making sourdough anything. Making the starter, feeding it, keeping up with it, regular baking...that's much more work than I am willing to do! Mad respect for all of you sourdough girls out there! I'll just continue to enjoy the bread others bake. Thrive through having fun I enjoyed a Sunday afternoon at Cirque de Soleil Echo with two of my girlfriends. This family-friendly show was excellent. I saw kids of all ages there. I highly recommend it if it comes to your city. Thrive through Serving OthersA couple of times a year, my church hosts "Serve Saturday" - a day where they coordinate a bunch of service projects around town. On Sunday they announced that the next Serve Saturday would be April 12. 📆I took a look at my calendar, saw that I had nothing scheduled then and immediately started looking at some of the project choices. I found a couple that I was interested in, but by the time I got around to signing up, they were full. So since serving others is all about me...I said forget that. Let someone else do those other projects. I serve all the time in other places. It's almost like those bracelets that say WWJD, except this time it was WWCP (What would Cathy PREFER????) Anyway, once I got a grip, I went back and signed up to build beds for kids who sleep on the floor every night through a group called Sleep in Heavenly Peace. 🛌 The project description said no building experience was necessary. They would teach me everything I need to know. I could sand wood or just hand wood to the builders. I think I can handle that. Sleep in Heavenly Peace has 325 chapters across the US. Maybe there is one in your city. I'll let you know how it goes. OK- I want to know...Have you ever baked a loaf of sourdough bread? Did you make your own starter? Are you still doing it? If so, do you live close to me?😆 Write back and tell me! Until next time, Cathy Thriving through SERVICE, LEARNING and HAVING FUN! |

Hey Reader, When I was a little girl in the early 60's my parents both worked shift work. Mom worked days and Dad worked nights, which meant that Dad took care of my sister and me during the day. I have a vivid memory of running errands with my dad on weekday mornings. 💵We went to the Police Department to pick up his pay check. 💈To the barbershop for him to...

The humidity and mosquitos have arrived in Houston, so I guess we are! A NEW FUN Experience My friend, Meredyth, and I went to Artechouse Houston for the Blooming Wonders exhibit. This was the coolest thing. It was digitally created art depicting flowers, plants, butterflies and anything you that you would see in...

I spent most of May watching all the end of year grandkid programs and teaching my 16 year old grandson how to drive. That last one was a lot more time consuming than I anticipated and at times I felt like I had bitten off more than I could chew! One way I survived it was to make a Starbucks run every time we went out...
